Publisher: Front Public Health
Abstract: This study analyzes the social value of strict and early control of type 2 diabetes in Spain during the first five years after diagnosis, compared to less rigorous control. Using an economic model based on scientific literature, healthcare resource use, complications, quality of life, and mortality were evaluated. The results show that strict control has an economic impact of €1,010 million, compared to €1,127 million for non-strict control. Consequently, maintaining low HbA1c levels could generate a social benefit of €2,649 per patient.
